Which group do you belong to?

The Department of Health's Oral Health Survey in 2001 has revealed that extremely few people in Hong Kong have healthy gums.

Age group Percentage among population
having healthy gums
12 years old 5.5 %
35-44 years old 0.7 %
65 years old or above 0 - 0.3%

As such, more than 90% of the people in Hong Kong are suffering from varying severity degree of gum disease. Are you the minority healthy one?

Gum disease is a chronic disease of the tooth supporting tissues which is difficult for you to notice. You should initiate a check up of your gum condition at the dentist.

Gum disease is caused by the accumulation of dental plaque at the gumline of the teeth, resulting in the symptoms of gum inflammation, bleeding gums and bad breath etc. In its serious stage, the affected tooth will gradually lose its bone support and will eventually fall out.

To prevent gum disease, clean your teeth thoroughly with daily flossing.
